Youth Care Worker - Child and Youth Care Home
Description

The Care Worker will be an essential part of the Group home team; assisting with on-going development of the youth and children. The Care Workers will provide supervision, counselling, and personal care based on the needs of the children. Care workers will abide by the provincial legislation, policies, and procedures, along with the Onion Lake Health Board Inc. Policy Manual.

Reports to: Program Manager

Responsibilities
  • Apply positive TCI theories and techniques through on-going intervention and therapeutic involvement with each child.
  • Daily assessment of the child’s presenting needs and developmental areas; reporting to Case Manager for case planning reports.
  • Encourage and facilitate appropriate family involvement; Consistently provide stable, mature and sensitive role- modeling.
  • Establish and implement clearly defined behavioural expectations, rules, and limits that are harmonized with the abilities of each child.
  • Ensure that proper discipline, guidance, and direction is provided in a fair, consistent and logical manner within a safe atmosphere; respecting the special circumstances, rights and dignity of each child/youth.
  • Daily reports and documentation (daily behavioural reports, incident reports, critical incident reports, contact notes, medication dispensing forms, etc.); reporting all information to immediate supervisor.
  • Monitor and supervise children & youth on a daily basis. (i.e., all areas of their living quarters are clean, personal laundry done, personal hygiene is practised daily, etc.)
  • Driving, coordinating, and participating in any organized trips and/or short excursions.
  • Maintains effective communication and liaison with other Onion Lake First Nations Agencies (ICFS, Schools, RCMP, Health, etc.)
Qualifications
  • Minimum Grade 12.
  • Certificate in Early Childhood Development and/or related education in the Human Service Field.
  • Healthy Lifestyle Reflecting Positive Role Modelling.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license; Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • First-Aid & CPR an asset.
