Description

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Cook will be responsible for preparing daily balanced nutritional meals including breakfast, lunch and supper while maintaining sanitary working conditions.

Reports to: Program Manager

Responsibilities
  • Assists the Dietician with preparing menus.
  • Deals with food orders, receiving and inventory.
  • Prepares all necessary food items as per set menu/recipes.
  • Assists with basic food preparation, arranges for completed meals.
  • Ensures food supplies are properly handled and properly stored at all times.
  • Operates a variety of industrial kitchen equipment including knives, mixers, ovens and dishwasher.
  • Maintains sanitary working environment within the kitchen in accordance with health regulations, including all kitchen surface areas such as: serving utensils, appliances and dishware.
  • Maintains safe and clean kitchen equipment.
  • Maintains a clean preparation and eating area; sweeps and mops floors.
  • Maintains a clean dining area for clients and family members.
  • Works co-operatively with clients and fellow staff.
  • Accepts limitations of colleagues and clients.
  • Respects colleagues and clients.
  • Is punctual for work, and appointments.
  • Attends, participates in staff meetings and workshops.
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills and time management.
  • We require all staff to participate in one standing organizational committee of their choosing.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with related experience preferred.
  • Food Safety Level One; Level Two would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food handling health standards.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and manage time.
  • Integrity, flexibility and a quality assurance to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Driver’s License, Driver’s abstract, Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
